Montgomery Regional Airport and Montgomery Aviation to host Captain Barrington Irving’s Flying Classroom Fly-In

(Montgomery, AL) – The Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM), alongside Montgomery Aviation and other local aviation professionals, will host Captain Barrington Irving and the Flying Classroom Fly-In’s on June 21, 2022. This event celebrates the district’s partnership with the Flying Classroom and commitment to STEM+ education.

The Flying Classroom is a K-12 integrative STEM+ supplemental curriculum. The classroom allows students to see the standards and principles aligned to STEM; it also includes correlated activities to geography, informational literacy, writing, art, and social studies.

Approximately 40 students in grades third and fourth from Greenville Elementary School will have a chance to meet Captain Irving and see the behind-the-scenes of the aviation industry. Each lesson is conducted by Captain Irving and allows students to develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and cognitive development skills as they navigate the expedition content.

“The Montgomery Regional Airport is excited to host Captain Barrington Irving and his Flying Classroom, this partnership allows students to see what a future in flight would look like,” said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director for Montgomery Regional Airport. “This unique partnership and outreach offer students a chance to explore the aviation field, or even picture themselves as pilots, like Captain Irving.”
