Montgomery Regional Airport Remembers and Honors 9/11 With Tribute Wall of Kindness

Montgomery, Ala. –Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks through its Tribute Wall of Kindness, an interactive display inviting passengers, employees and airport visitors to honor those who lost their lives by sharing messages of kindness, unity and remembrance.

Located inside the airport terminal, the Tribute Wall of Kindness provides cards on which participants may write about an act of kindness they have performed, received or plan to extend to someone else. The messages are then displayed collectively, creating a visible reminder of the compassion and unity demonstrated by Americans in the days following 9/11.

This year’s observance is especially meaningful as the nation marks 25 years since the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and forever changed communities across the country.

“Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, the families forever affected and the first responders, service members and everyday citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage,” said Brittney Jones-Dabney, Communications and Marketing Manager for Montgomery Regional Airport. “Our Tribute Wall of Kindness allows our airport community to turn remembrance into meaningful action. Every message and act of kindness represents the spirit of unity that brought our nation together during one of its most difficult moments.”

MGM’s observance is part of the nationwide Pay It Forward 9/11 movement, which encourages individuals and organizations to honor the anniversary by performing three acts of kindness for strangers. The initiative was inspired by the generosity extended to thousands of airline passengers whose flights were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, following the attacks.

Throughout MGM’s “11 Days of Kindness,” passengers, employees and community members were encouraged to look for opportunities to help others, express gratitude and demonstrate compassion.

“Airports have a unique connection to the events of September 11,” Jones-Dabney added. “As an aviation community, we understand the importance of remembering the past while continuing to move forward with purpose, gratitude and care for one another.”

MGM encourages the River Region community to participate by visiting the Tribute Wall of Kindness or completing three acts of kindness in memory of those lost. Additional information about the national movement is available at Pay It Forward 9/11.
