Montgomery, Ala. – Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) successfully hosted its “Launch to Space City” celebration on March 5, welcoming more than 160 community leaders, business partners, and travelers to mark the highly anticipated launch of new nonstop service to Houston.
Held at Little Donkey in downtown Montgomery, the event commemorated MGM’s new twice-daily service to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), operated by United Airlines via SkyWest Airlines. The new route offers departures at 1:00 p.m. and 4:55 p.m., providing convenient access to one of the nation’s most connected global hubs.
The celebration brought together a vibrant mix of attendees, including members of the business community, elected officials, tourism partners, media, influencers, and frequent travelers—all united in support of expanding air service for the River Region.
“This level of engagement speaks volumes,” said Loyd Jenkins, Interim Executive Director of Montgomery Regional Airport. “When our community shows up and supports new service like this, it sends a clear message to our airline partners that Montgomery is ready to grow.”
Guests experienced a Texas-inspired atmosphere complete with interactive activations, branded giveaways, and a mechanical bull, creating an engaging and memorable environment that reflected both the destination and the spirit of the campaign.
Fueling Awareness Through “OTW to Houston”
The event also served as a key activation point for MGM’s “OTW to Houston” (On the Way to Houston) campaign—a strategic marketing initiative designed to build awareness, drive bookings, and encourage travelers to choose MGM as their airport of choice.
Through bold creative, community engagement, and targeted messaging, the campaign reinforces a simple but powerful idea: your journey to Houston starts right here at MGM.
“This campaign is about more than a new route—it’s about shifting mindset and building confidence in our local airport,” said Brittney Jones-Dabney, Communications and Marketing Manager at Montgomery Regional Airport. “With ‘OTW to Houston,’ we’re reminding our community that convenience, connectivity, and opportunity are right here at home. When our community chooses to fly MGM, it strengthens our ability to grow and sustain air service for the future.”
The visual identity of the campaign —brought to life by graphic design team member, Ashanti highlighted a distinctive, cohesive design—it has played a key role in capturing attention and creating a sense of excitement around the new service. From event materials to digital assets, the campaign’s creative execution has helped unify messaging and elevate the overall experience.
Early Momentum and Community Impact
The new Houston route will significantly enhance connectivity for Montgomery travelers, offering seamless access to United Airlines’ extensive domestic and international network.
MGM will continue building on this momentum with its upcoming inaugural flight celebration on April 7, where passengers and partners will commemorate the first official departure to Houston.
Montgomery Regional Airport encourages all travelers to support continued growth by choosing to fly local.
