Montgomery, Ala. – Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Marquez James as the airport’s new Chief of Police, bringing more than 24 years of law enforcement and public safety experience to the role.
A Montgomery native, Chief James has built a distinguished career focused on leadership, emergency management, community engagement, and multi-agency coordination. Throughout his career, he has worked alongside local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI, TSA, DHS, FAA, and the United States Secret Service, developing extensive experience in public safety operations and strategic leadership.
“Chief James brings a wealth of experience, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public service,” said Loyd L. Jenkins III, Executive Director of Montgomery Regional Airport. “His leadership will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, and welcoming environment that our passengers, tenants, and community expect from MGM Airport.”

As Chief of Police, his priorities will include strengthening safety and security operations, enhancing emergency preparedness, building strong partnerships with airport stakeholders and law enforcement agencies, and fostering a positive culture within the department.
He believes effective leadership is rooted in service, accountability, and integrity.
“Public service means putting people first, treating everyone with dignity and respect, and ensuring that our community feels safe, supported, and valued,” said James. “I believe leadership is most effective when it is visible, approachable, and grounded in integrity.”
In his new role, Chief James will oversee airport law enforcement operations and work closely with airport leadership, federal partners, airlines, tenants, and the traveling public to ensure the continued safety and security of Montgomery Regional Airport.
When asked what he hopes passengers and community members experience when visiting MGM, Chief James emphasized professionalism, safety, hospitality, and efficiency.
“Whether someone is traveling for business, visiting family, or experiencing Montgomery for the first time, I want MGM to leave a positive impression that reflects the pride and hospitality of our city,” he said.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Chief James enjoys spending time with family, mentoring young professionals, supporting community initiatives, participating in leadership development, and pursuing custom carpentry projects.
As he begins this new chapter, Chief James shared a message of gratitude and commitment to the airport community.
