Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) is proud to take part in the 24th annual Pay It Forward 9/11 campaign, joining individuals, businesses, and organizations across the country in spreading kindness in honor of lives lost during the September 11 attacks.
The campaign, known as 11 Days of Kindness, encourages people everywhere to perform three random acts of kindness for strangers between September 1–11. Inspired by the generosity of the people of Gander, Newfoundland—who welcomed thousands of stranded airline passengers on 9/11—the movement continues to grow as a way to honor tragedy with compassion.
This year, MGM employees and community partners are coming together to “Pay It Forward” through a series of acts of kindness, culminating with its Tower Kindness Day on September 11, where the airport will share an act of kindness with the Air Traffic Control Tower staff. As the team who keeps our skies safe, they are at the heart of MGM’s operations, and this effort is a meaningful way to honor their service within the national kindness campaign.
“We want to honor the memory of 9/11 not with sadness, but by uniting our community through gratitude and compassion,” said Brittney Jones-Dabney, Marketing and Communications Manager at MGM. “By encouraging acts of kindness, we hope to inspire others in Montgomery and beyond to join us in remembering one of our nation’s darkest days with light.”
In addition to Tower Kindness Day, MGM will engage travelers with an interactive Kindness Wall inside the terminal, where passengers can share good deeds they’ve done or experienced. Airport employees are also encouraged to complete their own three good deeds during the campaign and share their stories.
The Pay It Forward 9/11 campaign was founded in 2002 by Kevin Tuerff, an airline passenger stranded on 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland. Moved by the extraordinary hospitality he experienced, Tuerff started the nonprofit to encourage kindness around the anniversary of the attacks.
