Montgomery, Ala. – Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) will conduct a full-scale active shooter response exercise on Thursday, July 23, as part of the airport’s continued commitment to safety, security, and emergency preparedness.
The planned exercise will last approximately one hour and is designed to evaluate and strengthen the coordinated response of emergency personnel during a simulated active shooter incident. Exercise play is limited to designated participants and will involve responders from the Montgomery Regional Airport Police Department and other participating emergency response partners.
During the exercise, members of the public may notice an increased presence of law enforcement officers, emergency vehicles, and first responders throughout the airport. This activity is part of a planned training exercise, and there is no threat to the public.
“Preparedness is one of the most important responsibilities we have as an airport,” said Loyd Jenkins, Executive Director of Montgomery Regional Airport. “Conducting exercises like this allows our team and our public safety partners to train together, evaluate our response capabilities, and ensure we are prepared to respond effectively should an emergency ever occur.”
Regular emergency exercises are a key component of Montgomery Regional Airport’s emergency preparedness program and help ensure the airport remains ready to respond to a variety of situations while maintaining a safe and secure environment for passengers, employees, and visitors.
Normal airport operations and scheduled commercial flights are expected to continue as planned.
