With the May 7, 2025, federal REAL ID deadline rapidly approaching, the Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) hosted a public awareness event today featuring remarks from key transportation and law enforcement leaders, urging travelers to act now to avoid travel disruptions.
Tara Corse, TSA Federal Security Director for Alabama, emphasized the importance of readiness ahead of the enforcement date.
“I want to remind passengers that on May 7th, you must have a REAL ID in order to travel on commercial aircraft or enter specific federal facilities,” Corse said. “If you do not have a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification, you could face significant delays, additional screening, or even denial of entry. Acceptable alternatives include a passport, passport card, Global Entry card, active duty military ID, or other valid forms listed at TSA.gov/realID. The TSA deadline of May 7th will not be extended. Our agency is committed to delivering a positive customer experience, but preparedness is key.”
Captain Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) echoed the urgency while highlighting ALEA’s commitment to a smooth transition.
“We want everyone to know that getting your REAL ID, also known as the Alabama STAR ID, remains a seamless process,” said Burkett. “May 7th is a firm enforcement day, and if you plan to travel even 12 months from now, we encourage you to visit your local ALEA Driver License Office today. We’ve increased appointment availability and are ready to serve. The STAR ID adds an additional layer of security that supports TSA’s mission of ensuring the safety of our skies.”
Wade A. Davis, C.M. Executive Director of Montgomery Regional Airport, reaffirmed the airport’s role in the collaborative effort to keep passengers informed and secure.
“At MGM, we pride ourselves on providing a smooth and efficient travel experience,” said Davis. “Our security team works closely with TSA and ALEA to ensure passengers move quickly through screening.”
MGM wants the community to be prepared, and is proud to be a part of this educational initiative and encourage everyone to check their ID status well before the deadline. Travelers who do not yet have a REAL ID-compliant license or ID card are encouraged to visit the ALEA website or TSA.gov/realID to review required documents.
